Anne Hathaway to get contained in sci-fi thriller O2

Anne Hathaway

Fresh off of starring in the kaiju drama COLOSSAL, Anne Hathaway has signed on to star in another film with genre elements, this one the "GRAVITY meets BURIED" contained sci-fi thriller O2.

A deal is being made for IM Global to finance the project, which doesn't have a director attached yet, with a budget of around $10 million.

O2 is the brainchild of Christie LeBlanc, a single mother from Quebec who wrote the script and sent it unsolicited to Adam Riback and James Engle of Echo Lake Entertainment. Typically unsolicited scripts just get bounced back to the writer with a letter saying it's being returned unread, but somehow LeBlanc's script did get read and Riback and Engle decided to develop further drafts with her.

LeBlanc's screenplay, which was featured on the 2016 Black List, tells the story of

a woman who wakes up inside a cryogenic chamber, with no memory of how she got there. She must escape the chamber before her air runs out.

Yes, that means that the movie will primarily consist of Hathaway struggling inside a small space, much like Ryan Reynolds in BURIED.

This sounds interesting enough to me, I look forward to hearing who the director will be and to finding out how the idea of Hathaway being stuck in a chamber will sustain a feature.

Hathaway will be producing O2 with Riback, Engle, Suzan Bymel, Stuart Ford, and Greg Shapiro. Filming is expected to take place this fall.
