Dario Argento seems to know what he’s doing. The man is a huge name in the genre, especially in his native Italy. Well some interesting news coming from Variety says Argento is going to be making a film based on the genre that got him famous overseas.
His next project is titled GIALLO. It will revolve around serial slashings of some very attractive women being investigated by a solitary cop who engages in a cat-and-mouse game with the phsychopathic perpetrator.
Ultimately, giallos are similar to thrillers, and it’s what Argento excelled at in the 70s. I’m a big fan of serial killer flicks, so I’m stoked for this. Sure, Argento’s MOTHER OF TEARS wasn’t as spectacular as planned, but now the guy is working off his strengths.
Variety is also reporting that two have already joined the cast with a potential third. Of course Argento’s gorgeous daughter Asia Argento (below) is already signed on, as well as Vincent Gallo, who will be playing the killer. It’s also reported that Ray Liotta is in close talks to come aboard as the cop.
I’m more particular to Liotta playing a bad guy, but then again Liotta’s great in everything. The script for GIALLO was written by Jim Agnew and Sean Keller. It’s slated to start shooting next month in Turin, Italy.
Anything with Asia Argento is ok in my book.
