It looks like Zack Snyder's Army of the Dead is officially a hit! Or, at least that's what Netflix is revealing via their quarterly earnings report, which pegs the movie's viewership at 75 million member accounts. The info was reported via THR, who also revealed big numbers for several other Q2 titles. Notably, Sweet Tooth, despite an absence of hype compared to other high-profile launches, was the highest-ranking new series on the chart, having been watched by 60 million accounts. That's 5 million more than Netflix breakout hit Shadow & Bone, which has already gotten a second season order.
In terms of movies, Kevin Hart's Fatherhood was watched by 74 million accounts. At the same time, The Mitchells vs. the Machines is Netflix's biggest animated film debut to date, with 53 million views over four weeks.
Of course, Netflix numbers should always be taken with a grain of salt. For example, THR notes that "Netflix's viewing metric counts two minutes of viewing time of a series or movie — long enough to show "the choice was intentional," as the streamer puts it — as a view."
While a big hit (and indeed, Netflix has already snapped up Snyder for Rebel Moon) Army of the Dead didn't hit some of the blockbuster numbers achieved by movies like Extraction (99 million views), Spencer Confidential (85 million), and Six Underground (83 million). On the series side, Lupin Part 2, surprisingly, didn't do as well as its predecessor, hitting 54 million views instead of 76 million for Part 1.
