Next year is shaping up to be Zack Snyder's biggest ever. In addition to his much-anticipated version of Justice League coming to HBO Max in March, the fan-favorite filmmaker also has his Army of the Dead film, anime, and prequel shambling onto Netflix. Oh, and let's not forget that he's also prepping a version of Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice that will restore the film's IMAX ratio. If that's not enough to rev the engine of Snyderphiles the world over, perhaps the news that production has officially wrapped on Army of the Dead: The Prequel will do the trick.
Snyder announced that production has been completed for Army of the Dead: The Prequel via Twitter, which elicited plenty of big reactions from his dedicated fanbase.

“I’m incredibly excited for the opportunity to partner with Netflix again as we expand the ‘Army of the Dead’ universe with both an international prequel, as well as exploring the visually dynamic world of animation,” Snyder said in a statement back in September. “It’s been a great collaboration and we are thrilled that Netflix sees this as big of an IP as we do.”
Before we dig into the prequel, you should know that Army of the Dead stars Dave Bautista, Ella Purnell, Ana De La Reguera, Theo Rossi, Huma Qureshi, Omari Hardwick, Tig Notaro, Hiroyuki Sanada, Garret Dillahunt, Matthias Schweighöfer, Raúl Castillo, Nora Arnezeder, and Samantha Win. Taking place shortly after a zombie outbreak in Las Vegas, Army of the Dead follows a group of mercenaries who take the ultimate gamble, venturing into the quarantine zone to pull off the greatest heist ever attempted.
As for Army of the Dead: The Prequel, this chapter of the series will be directed by Schweighöfer and will follow his Ludwig Dieter character from the original film. Shay Hatten, who co-write the screenplay for Army of the Dead will write the prequel as well as the previously mentioned anime series.
“It has already been a great pleasure to be part of this wonderful ensemble around Zack Synder — a fascinating project. I am happy that it is now being developed on so many different levels,” Schweighöfer said in a previous statement.
