Arnold Schwarzenegger returns to acting with a border battle against the cartel? A prison thriller? A horse drama?

After much speculation and anticipation, we found out that Arnold Schwarzenegger’s first post-political role turned out to be a caricature of himself (no small feat) in a cartoon called “The Governator”.

But he is also gravitating back to live-action features, fortunately. An intriguing report recently surfaced (translated through a Polish news site) that the Austrian Oak was planning to hook up with Korean director Jee-Woon Kim (A BITTERSWEET LIFE, THE GOOD, THE BAD, THE WEIRD) for an action movie called THE LAST STAND.

There’s some truth to that, as Heat Vision says Arnie may indeed fulfill that whole promise to “be back” with the Lionsgate project, which would be “set in motion when a cartel leader breaks out of a courthouse and speeds to the Mexican border. The only thing standing in his way is a bordertown sheriff and his inexperienced staff.” The studio wants to get rolling as early as August.

But Variety says Schwarzenegger could also be seriously eyeing THE TOMB, from director Antoine Fuqua (TRAINING DAY). The Summit thriller involves “a structural security expert who’s framed for a crime and put in a high-security prison that he designed.” Arnie’s THE EXPENDABLES cameo chum Bruce Willis was previously attached to star.

Arnold has a few other possibilites, including the long-in-development WWII script WITH WINGS AS EAGLES. And in the latest issue of EW, he talks about a drama called CRY MACHO (seriously), which would find him as an over-the-hill horse trainer whose boss sends him to Mexico to retrieve his estranged son. “It becomes a movie about the relationship between the boy, who never had a parent that cared about him, and this horse trainer,” Arnie says. “It’s a really wonderful story.”
