Netflix made the huge announcement today that they are teaming up with Ubisoft to develop content based on the international best-selling video game franchise Assassin's Creed and the first series live-action adaptation is being described by Netflix as "epic" and "genre-bending."

The series is currently conducting a search for a showrunner and Ubisoft Film and Television's Jason Altman and Danielle Kreinik will serve as Executive Producers. Under this new partnership, Netflix and Ubisoft plan on tapping into the iconic video game's many dynamic stories with global mass appeal via adaptations of live-action, animated, and anime series. Ubisoft had this to say about the latest union:

"For more than 10 years, millions of fans around the world have helped shape the Assassin's Creed brand into an iconic franchise. We're thrilled to create an Assassin's Creed series with Netflix and we look forward to developing the next saga in the Assassin's Creed universe."

Netflix shared their sentiment and excitement about their new agreement by saying "We're excited to partner with Ubisoft and bring to life the rich, multilayered storytelling that Assassin's Creed is beloved for. From its breathtaking historical worlds and massive global appeal as one of the best selling video game franchise of all time, we are committed to carefully crafting epic and thrilling entertainment based on this distinct IP and provide a deeper dive for fans and our members around the world to enjoy."

Assassin's Creed first launched in 2007 and it has gone on to sell more than 155 million games worldwide. This has established the franchise as one of the best-selling series in video game history. A film adaptation was released in 2016 starring Michael Fassbender, Marion Cotillard, Jeremy Irons, Brendan Gleeson, Charlotte Rampling, and Michael K. Williams, and while critics weren't impressed, the game's worldwide appeal allowed the film to gross $240.6 million globally on a $125 million budget.
