According to Deadline, Marvel Studios has tapped Michael Waldron to write Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. This places the Loki creator as the man who will bring the Multiverse Saga to a close, as he’s already attached to write Avengers: Secret Wars as well.

Avengers: The Kang Dynasty has been through a number of major changes this month. Jeff Loveless (Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania) was originally set to pen the screenplay, but it was announced two weeks ago that he was no longer attached to the project; Then, just one day later, Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi and the Ten Rings) stepped down as director. With Michael Waldron handling the writing side of both The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars, there have been rumours that Marvel is looking for a director to helm both movies.

Michael Waldron entered the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the creator of Loki and served as head writer for the first season before handing the reigns to Eric Martin for the second. He also wrote Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness before Marvel signed him to write Avengers: Secret Wars as well.

Unfortunately, Marvel also has something of a Kang problem. After being set up as the next big bad of the MCU, Jonathan Majors found himself facing allegations of assault, with even more women coming forward, alleging a history of abuse that goes back many years. The actor is set to stand trial in just a few days, and if convicted, he could face up to a year in jail. Majors’ defence team is also said to be seeking to keep an “evidentiary matter” confidential during the trial, as it reportedly contains “sensitive information” that may prevent a fair trial and further damage his public image.

Marvel hasn’t made a decision regarding Jonathan Majors’ future in the MCU, but if the studio ultimately decides to ditch the actor, they could recast the role or even move away from Kang altogether. Marvel is likely waiting on the outcome of the trial before making any choice one way or another.

Avengers: The Kang Dynasty is slated to hit theaters on May 1, 2026, and will be followed by Avengers: Secret Wars on May 7, 2027. Do you think Michael Waldron is a good fit to pen both movies?
