The producers of the upcoming TERMINATOR SALVATION: THE FUTURE BEGINS (aka T4) sat down with Entertainment Weekly and dished the goods on the fourth installment, including where this story is headed, and confirming the earlier rumors that Christian Bale will be starring in the new trilogy as the leader of the resistance, John Connor.
It’s a really interesting time in the franchise because it’s where all the fans have always wanted the franchise to go, and it hasn’t to date, which is the post-apocalyptic world. It’s after judgment day. So because we’re in a different time in the mythology, it introduces a whole new set of circumstances and characters.
That’s just one taste of the chat. They talk about budget (north of $150M!), they talk about the new villains (sorta), and they also reveal that Arnold Schwarzenegger may end up appearing in a very small cameo role! That is, if he’s able to appear at all. No promises, but they sound hopeful.
With Bale on board, I think it brings a whole new level of credibility to the project, beyond having McG as director. Bale generally does good movies, so hopefully… at least on a script level… T4 will be good and take the franchise to the next, post judgment day level. I sure hope so!
