Bates stands Still?

The boys at Bloody-Disgusting got word (presumably from around a campfire) that Kathy Bates and Jaden Smith (Will Smith’s son) have both joined the cast to the star-studded remake of THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL!

Directed by Scott Derrickson, the two new stars join the likes of legendary thespian Keanu Reeves and hottie Jennifer Connelly. I knew a remake along the likes of this would bring some heavy hitters, but this many? I’m utterly perplexed!

It should be said that there hasn’t been an ‘official’ statement released on this casting, but it sounds legit enough, so let’s just go with it… along with a grain of salt (as the saying goes). Bates still terrifies me to this day, because… ah, see, you’d think I’d say because of her role as Misery in MISERY, but actually I was going to say because of that nude scene she did in ABOUT SCHMIDT. Thinking about that just gave me shivers…

The film is currently filming in Vancouver, though no release date has been set yet. I’d say, if they were smart, they’ll release it next holiday season and make some big buck, much like this season’s dark Sci-Fi flick I AM LEGEND.
