Bella Thorne makes her directorial debut with the Pornhub film, Her & Him

In this new age of content distribution, creatives can take their projects and ideas to a wide variety of places, whether it be an established production studio or an internet-based streaming service. For actress Bella Thorne, she got her first big shot at directing thanks to the folks at Pornhub – yes, Pornhub – who will be distributing her new film, the sexual drama HER & HIM, as part of their Visionary Director’s Series on their Premium service.

The film, which Thorne describes in a BTS video as “a very beautiful, ethereal, neon type of vision,” is about an “edgy twenty-something guy who stumbles upon a surprise text in his girlfriend’s phone, interrupting their morning routine and spinning everything into an out-of-control sexually charged encounter.”  The movie will debut at The Oldenburg Film Festival in Germany from September 11-15 before going onto Pornhub Premium.

Thorne rose to fame on the Disney Channel show SHAKE IT UP, before transitioning into movies like THE DUFF, THE BABYSITTER and ASSASSINATION NATION, as well as TV shows like FAMOUS IN LOVE. She said she had been shopping the project around for some time (originally as a Christmas horror movie) before Pornhub stepped in to produce it.

“What inspired me to do the movie was basically thinking about this relationship between a male and a female and this fight over dominance and how much that relates to us in our general world besides in a sexual scenario."

A movie airing on Pornhub comes with a certain set of expectations, and Thorne spoke to what it was like shooting real sex scenes for the movie, which is made more daunting by the fact it was paired with the first time she's directed anything at all. 

“The process of shooting was very interesting, because we had real life fucking on set, which I had never shot before. Also, this was my first short in general, so it was quite an interesting experience to have the first thing that I ever really fully directed have so much sex in it. It is quite a fun environment.”
