Ben Affleck pulls off a life-changing heist in Triple Frontier trailer

Ben Affleck may be done with playing Batman and paling around with the Justice League, but he’s suiting up for a different kind of action with a new crew including Oscar Isaac, Pedro Pascal, Garrett Hedlund and Charlie Hunnam for the heist thriller TRIPLE FRONTIER. The cast plays a unit of former Special Forces operatives who decide to use their particular set of skills to take on a big score and set themselves up for life. Those situations never turn out well, and before they know it the boys are fighting off governments and each other in a race for fortune and survival. That will be entertaining for us to experience, at least.

While they’ve released some great films in the past (BEASTS OF NO NATION, MUDBOUND) between movies like ROMA and HIGH FLYING BIRD Netflix is really starting to branch out with some consistent, top-quality projects from terrific filmmakers. TRIPLE FRONTIER looks like an excellent thriller with some intense action, and one sporting some serious artistry and production values that make it look better than your typical Netflix fare. Plus you got that cast, and considering Chandor has several fantastic outings on his record, this is for sure one to watch when it hits next month.

A long-gestating project that at once had actors like Tom Hanks, Johnny Depp, Tom Hardy, Channing Tatum, Mahershala Ali and more linked at one point found its home at Netflix, with J.C. Chandor (A MOST VIOLENT YEAR, ALL IS LOST) at the helm and written by him and Mark Boal (THE HURT LOCKER, ZERO DARK THIRTY).

Here’s the synopsis:

A group of former Special Forces operatives (Ben Affleck, Oscar Isaac, Charlie Hunnam, Garrett Hedlund and Pedro Pascal) reunite to plan a heist in a sparsely populated multi-border zone of South America. For the first time in their prestigious careers these unsung heroes undertake this dangerous mission for self instead of country. But when events take an unexpected turn and threaten to spiral out of control, their skills, their loyalties and their morals are pushed to a breaking point in an epic battle for survival. Directed by Academy Award® nominee J.C. Chandor (Margin Call, All Is Lost, A Most Violent Year) and co-written by Chandor and Academy Award® winner Mark Boal (The Hurt Locker, Zero Dark Thirty).

TRIPLE FRONTIER is in select theaters March 6 and on Netflix March 13.
