There can be only one… unless we’re talking about versions of the story. Titan Comics has released a trailer for Highlander: The Original Screenplay, a new comic book series that brings the original vision for the 1986 cult classic to the page, and you can check it out in the embed above. The four-issue series is written by Highlander creator and original screenwriter Gregory Widen, with artwork by Szymon Kudranski.

The first issue, Highlander: The Original Screenplay #1, arrives in comic shops on December 16, 2026. According to the official synopsis, “This lavishly illustrated comic tells the story of the immortal Connor MacLeod as he lives through the centuries, facing off against rivals for the mysterious prize.“

The comic is being promoted as an “uncut” and “expanded” version of Widen’s original screenplay. Its story spans from the Scottish battlefields of 1538 to the streets of New York City in 1986, promising an epic blend of action and romance. Highlander: The Original Screenplay #1 is the first of four planned issues, with the second installment scheduled to arrive January 6, 2027.

The original Highlander, directed by Russell Mulcahy, introduced audiences to Connor MacLeod (Christopher Lambert), a Scottish Highlander who discovers that he is immortal. After centuries of secret duels between immortals, MacLeod eventually faces his greatest enemy in modern-day New York. The fantasy adventure also starred Sean Connery as Juan Sánchez-Villalobos Ramírez, alongside Roxanne Hart as Brenda Wyatt, Beatie Edney as Heather MacLeod, and Clancy Brown as an unforgettable villain known as The Kurgan.

The franchise is also preparing for a return to the big screen. Henry Cavill is set to play Connor MacLeod in the upcoming Highlander reboot, directed by Chad Stahelski. Russell Crowe will take on the role of Ramírez, with Dave Bautista as The Kurgan. Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, Drew McIntyre, and Jeremy Irons are also in the cast.

For fans who have spent decades with the immortal warriors, Widen’s comic adaptation offers an opportunity to revisit the story through the screenplay that started it all. Will you be collecting the issues of Highlander: The Original Screenplay? Let us know by leaving a comment below.
