Charlie Hunnam could be heading back into enemy territory for Triple Frontier 2, a sequel to the J.C. Chandor-directed action thriller. In 2019’s Triple Frontier, loyalties are tested when five friends and former special forces operatives reunite to take down a South American drug lord, unleashing unintended consequences. According to Hunnam, he’s producing another Triple Frontier movie, though the project is in its early stage of development.

Speaking with The Mary Sue at a Rebel Moon: Part One – A Child of Fire press event, Hunnam revealed his intentions for a potential sequel, saying the project is in its “absolute infancy.” Hunnam added, “Nothing guaranteed, but I just set up recently as the main producer on a potential sequel to Triple Frontier at Netflix.”

Hunnam plays William ‘Ironhead’ Miller in Triple Frontier, opposite Garrett Hedlund as his brother, Ben Miller. Meanwhile, Ben Affleck stars as Tom ‘Redfly’ Davis, with Oscar Isaac playing Santiago ‘Pope’ Garcia and Pedro Pascal as Francisco ‘Catfish’ Morales.

During Hunnam’s interview with The Mary Sue, the Sons of Anarchy and Pacific Rim actor reinforced that nothing is written in stone regarding Triple Frontier 2. “So we’re working on that. It’s in its absolute infancy, but I feel like I’ve got a lot more to say about the sort of after life of military personnel. I’m really hopeful.”

JoBlo’s Managing Editor, Chris Bumbray, was also at the Rebel Moon: Part One – A Child of Fire premiere and says he spotted Hunnam and Hedlund working up the crowd. Check out our Rebel Moon review for what we thought of Zack Snyder’s love letter to Star Wars.
