Lizzy Caplan and Lucy DeVito have teamed up for a darkly comic thriller that puts a painful spin on the home invasion genre. Titled Drag, the film follows two sisters whose attempt to rob a rural home in upstate New York turns into a nightmare when one of them throws out her back and becomes immobilized upstairs. Briarcliff Entertainment has released the first trailer ahead of the movie’s theatrical debut on January 29, 2027, and you can check it out in the embed above.

Written and directed by Raviv Ullman and Greg Yagolnitzer, Drag centers on sisters with a contentious relationship who choose the wrong house for a burglary. With one sister unable to move and the homeowner expected to return, their supposedly simple robbery becomes a desperate effort to get out before they’re caught. The film marks the feature directorial debuts of Ullman and Yagolnitzer, and it has already made the festival rounds. Drag premiered in the Midnighters section of the 2026 SXSW Film & TV Festival before screening at events including Overlook, FilmQuest, Sitges, and Splat!FilmFest. This is the first directing credit for Ullman. Yagolnitzer previously directed episodes of the animated TV series Cake.

Caplan and DeVito lead a cast that also includes John Stamos and Christine Ko. The movie also brings together several members of the DeVito family behind the scenes. Lucy DeVito produced Drag alongside her father, Danny DeVito, and brother, Jake DeVito. Danny DeVito has a long history with dark comedy, both in front of and behind the camera. He directed the black comedies Throw Momma from the Train and The War of the Roses, the latter a particularly vicious look at a marriage falling apart, and later took on the gleefully twisted Death to Smoochy.

Speaking to People in March about the family’s involvement, Lucy described the production as a collaborative effort, saying, “Drag was a family affair working with my dad and my brother.” She also praised her experience working with Caplan, explaining that the two actresses “got each other” immediately.

Does Drag sound like something you’d be interested in catching on the big screen in January? Take a look at the trailer, then let us know by leaving a comment below.
