Ben Wheatley’s A Field in England gets a TV spot

Last Updated on July 23, 2021

We make no secret of the fact that we're big fans of visionary director Ben Wheatley here on AITH. His KILL LIST remains one of my favorite films of the past decade and his recent SIGHTSEERS is another gem that has delighted fans and critics alike (check out Bumbray's review for that one HERE). So we've been looking forward to Wheatley's A FIELD IN ENGLAND since first hearing about it and today we have a cool TV spot for the flick, which is getting a groundbreaking wide release in the UK, becoming the first ever film to be released in UK nationwide cinemas, on free TV, on DVD and on Video-on-Demand on the same day, Friday July 5th 2013. A FIELD IN ENGLAND was also recently acquired for North American rights by Drafthouse Films, with a theatrical and VOD release planned for later this year.

The English Civil War-set film stars Michael Smiley (KILL LIST), Peter Ferdinando (TONY), Reece Shearsmith (THE LEAGUE OF GENTLEMEN), Julian Barratt (THE MIGHTY BOOSH), Richard Glover (SIGHTSEERS) and Ryan Pope.

Written by Amy Jump and produced by Claire Jones and Andy Starke at Rook Films, the film is set during the English Civil War of the mid-17th century and follows a small group of deserters fleeing from a raging battle who become caught up in a hunt for treasure.

While crossing a vast mushroom circle, which provides their first meal, the group quickly descend into a chaos of arguments, fighting and paranoia, and, as it becomes clear that the treasure they seek might be something other than gold, they slowly become victim to the terrifying energies trapped in the field.
