Beowulf held at border

Those of us north of the border (read: Canada) have already gotten a taste of Sturla Gunarsson’s BEOWULF & GRENDEL when it debuted last month. Since we’re caring neighbours, we’re going to share it with those of you south of the 49th, or so it seemed.

According to MoviesOnline, a U.S. distributor that the film was looking for had been found, which would have cleared the way for the film to make its U.S. debut at the Seattle Film Festival, which begins May 25th. Afterwards, the film would be making stops at 5 other major cities.

That was the plan. However, the deal that MoviesOnline announced this morning has since been retracted, according to the folks behind the film. No reason was given for the deal falling through. Along with this news comes the question of the film’s status for the Seattle Film Festival, but given that the premiere hinged on the deal, it looks as though the premiere will have to wait. Stay tuned for more on this one. Those of you who are planning to head North to see the film can head here to see when the next screenings are for the film.
