The last ‘sort-of update’ we got on GHOSTBUSTERS 3 came from Mr. Bill Murray back at the beginning of April. At that point the good word had the talented comedic actor holding things up and acting like a ‘jerk.’ Well it’s just been a few weeks and it seems Murray is singing a different tune now… well not really.
You see the guys over at Cinema Blend recently had a chance to chat with Murray while he was out promoting GET LOW. Needless to say the topic of GHOSTBUSTERS 3 came up and this is what Murray had to say:
“It’s just a myth. It’s like the white alligator in the sewer, you know? Who’s seen it, really?
It’s just really the movie studio. They love the franchise, they’d just like to re-create it again. All this talk is just talk. It drives me nuts, it’s just people talking. And now, it’s like, on the street people go ‘hey, hey, hey,’ you know, why don’t you go back to high school? Quit bothering me. Until someone actually creates a great script it’s just hogwash, it doesn’t mean anything. It’s interesting that people are interested in it, they’d like to see it. It was a great thing, it really was fun. Maybe it should. And if it’s such a good idea, then someone will write the screenplay.”
Alright then. So I know the first impression people might get from this is that Murray is being an old haggard jackass. Yes, I see that logic. But if you listen to the guy it sounds like he’s down for a third entry of the epic franchise. He’s just tired of all the talk and wants to see some action! At least that’s what I’m getting from this… Then again if you believe that ‘refusing to answer phone calls’ jive then my logic would paint Murray as a bit hypocritical. Or maybe I’m just looking way to much into this….
Bottom line, is GHOSTBUSTERS 3 going to happen? Things seemed to be going great for a while until not too long ago, when director Ivan Reitman was supposedly being forced off the project and Murray started talking to journalists. So what do you guys think? Is there still some life in this shite or are we just beating a dead horse here?
