Black Death for Smith

Nearly a year ago I told you all about an intriguing flick called BLACK DEATH. Well since that casting news we haven’t heard much from the project. But today changes all of that!

Thanks to the guys over at Quiet Earth we’ve got a look at the first poster for BLACK DEATH. They’ve also dropped word that the film’s director Geoff Sax has left the project and Christopher Smith has stepped in as his replacement. No telling why Sax was replaced. HanWay Films will be handling international sales for BLACK DEATH.

Now you may recognize Smith’s name. Why? Well because he’s the guy that directed SEVERANCE, which I’m yet to hear a bad thing about. He also directed CREEP and the upcoming TRIANGLE. Now I haven’t had the pleasure of checking SEVERANCE out, but I very much want to. But just the buzz alone has me stoked that Smith has stepped in for BLACK DEATH.

The full synopsis for BLACK DEATH reads: Medieval England has fallen under the shadow of the Black Death. In this apocalyptic world, filled with fear and superstition, a young monk called Osmund is charged in leading a fearsome knight, Ulric and his group of mercenaries to a remote marsh. Their quest is to hunt down a necromancer – someone able to bring the dead back to life. Torn between his love of God and the love of a young woman, Osmund discovers the necromancer, a mysterious beauty called Langiva. After Langiva reveals her Satanic identity and offers Osmund his hearts desire, the horror of his real journey begins.

DEATH was penned by Dario Poloni and stars Lena Headey (below), Sean Bean, and Rupert Friend. Hopefully we’ll be hearing a lot more on BLACK DEATH considering this has been a year in the making. Keep it here for any more updates as we hear them.
