Black Panther prowls beyond Jurassic World and Frozen at the box office

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

As director Ryan Coogler's BLACK PANTHER continues to sharpen its claws on other notable blockbusters, we've recently learned that Marvel's latest cinematic chart-topper has officially crossed two major box office milestones. While gathering the latest numbers from the studio's trip to Wakanda, we've come to find that BLACK PANTHER's $652.5M domestic total has officially stolen the crown from 2015's JURASSIC WORLD ($652.3M) to become the No. 4 film of all time. Additionally, the superhero action adventure recently brought the heat down on Disney's FROZEN by passing the animated film's $1,276.5M global box office total. Now, for those of you keeping score at home, BLACK PANTHER has now grossed a worldwide total of $1.279.2M, making it one of the Top Ten most successful movies of all time. Oh boy, you don't even need super-sonic hearing to catch the sound of Marvel Studios purring over these totals, my friends.

Starring Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman and Daniel Kaluuya, Marvel's BLACK PANTHER centers on T'Challa, the King of Wakanda, who rises to the throne in the isolated, technologically advanced African nation. When his claim is challenged by a vengeful outsider who was a childhood victim of T'Challa's father's mistake, it's up to the Black Panther, his sister Shuri, and Wakanda's mightiest band of female warriors, the Dora Milaje, to prevent their kingdom from falling into the wrong hands.

Some would say that it's been pretty amazing watching BLACK PANTHER rise through the ranks, since its February 16th release. In fact, there was a time prior to the film's debut when an online hate group was hoping to sabotage the film with a flood of negative reviews. How'd that work out for you, haters? Would you care for something to drink as you wash down that plate of crow you're no doubt munching on? After all, the film opened domestically to an astounding $202M total, which I don't think anyone can deny is absurdly impressive. Long live the king indeed.

Do you think AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR has the potential to do better than BLACK PANTHER at the box office? Do you think the film's success will lead to more diverse characters and franchises becoming a part of the MCU? Let us know in the comments section below.
