The horror and western genres collide in writer/director Chris Canfield’s feature debut Blackwood, and today we’re proud to share the EXCLUSIVE first look at the film’s trailer. Check it out in the embed above! Saban Films will be giving Blackwood a theatrical release on July 22nd, with a digital and VOD release to follow on July 26th.

Blackwood has the following synopsis:

A seemingly unstoppable, violent creature stands between a gang of outlaws, a Native American woman, and a fortune of gold in the terrifying Old West. Dutch Wilder and his crew are tasked with ambushing prospectors who’ve discovered gold in the uncharted Black Wood Forest. But first they must track the horse thief who killed one of their men. The “thief” is a Native American, herself a victim of barbaric frontier injustice. Coerced in-to accompanying the gang through the treacherous terrain, she leads them deeper into darkness where they’re attacked by the malevolent, ancient entity known as “Wendigo.” The Wilder posse and Native guide must work together and fight for their very survival.

The film stars Glenn Morshower (Transformers: The Last Knight), Tanajsia Slaughter (The Last Son), Bates Wilder (Joy), Stelio Savante (My Super Ex-Girlfriend), and David ‘Shark’ Fralick (Reap What You Sow).

Canfield produced Blackwood with Ryan M. Hall and Richard Songtad. Eric Corneliuson served as executive producer.

Canfield previously directed a few short films, but most of his credits to date have been as a production designer. He earned the earliest credit listed on his IMDb page by working as a grip on a short film in 2009.

I always get hyped when I hear that a movie is going to mix horror into an Old West setting, so I’m already sold on watching Blackwood when it’s released next month.
