Blade: Watchmen writer to pen screenplay

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

While I'm a huge fan of the first two Blade films (and don't hate the third one as much as most people) starring Wesley Snipes, I am still really excited about the upcoming MCU version starring Mashallah Ali. Especially after finding out that Deadpool 3 – also connected canonically to the MCU – will be rated R! Which gives hope for an R-rated Blade film as well!

Now THR reports that Stacy Osei-Kuffour – who wrote for HBO's critically-acclaimed Watchmen series – will be the new screenwriter for the film! Furthermore, the article states:

Marvel has spent the last six months meeting with writers in what was described as a meticulous search with which Ali was directly involved. Only Black writers were seriously considered, a reflection of Marvel’s focus on diversity and making representation a key factor.

This is awesome, in my opinion. Even better that we're seeing more representation behind the camera, as well as in front of them. I honestly can't wait!

Meanwhile, no official start or release date as of yet, but we'll keep you posted!
