Blake Lively goes into assassin mode in The Rhythm Section trailer

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

In the upcoming action-thriller, THE RHYTHM SECTION, Blake Lively plays Stephanie Patrick, a woman on a quest for answers and who has no problem breaking a few bones to get them. The new trailer for the movie from Emmy winner Reed Morano (THE HANDMAID’S TALE) finds Lively going into full assassin mode, fighting through the emotional and physical pain, all while dodging gunfire, explosions and some shady characters.

Based on the book by Mark Burnell (who also wrote the script) and co-starring Sterling K. Brown, Max Casella and Jude Law, Morano’s thriller doesn’t look like the kind of slick action thriller that you would normally find in a January release slot. It looks more dramatic and emotionally charged than something like this year’s ANNA, which fits in with Morano’s style after helming episodes of shows like THE HANDMAID’S TALE and the post-apocalyptic movie I THINK WE’RE ALONE NOW. Lively looks to be turning in some captivating work, bringing some pathos to match the violence.

Production on the movie had to be halted temporarily after Lively injured herself on set, and then the release has been delayed for almost a year, originally set for February 2019, all before being pushed to November, and then being pushed again to its current slot of January 31, 2020.
