Blanchett vanishes in trailer for Linklater’s Where’d You Go, Bernadette

Why would anyone with the perfect life just up an vanish out of nowhere? Is there something sinister afoot? Is this some sort of GONE GIRL scenario? Or are they living a double life as a member of a mariachi band and the group hit it big and they are now going on a tour of South America? In the case of Bernadette Fox (Cate Blanchett), no one knew the answer, and the new movie WHERE’D YOU GO, BERNADETTE from director Richard Linklater (BOYHOOD) has a fun time trying to solve the mystery, as evidenced by the first upbeat trailer with silly, family-driven back and forths. Missing person cases have never been this much fun!

Look, Linklater’s last movie – LAST FLAG FLYING – was a low key, somewhat depressing movie about three men driving to pick up the dead body of one character’s (Steve Carell) son. So, I understand if he wanted to tackle a whacky, quirky little story like this, sporting a great ensemble cast that includes Blanchett, Billy Crudup, Kristen Wiig, Emma Nelson, James Urbaniak, Judy Greer, Troian Bellisario, Zoe Chao and Laurence Fishburne. It looks simple and undemanding, and come on, it has Cate Blanchett!

Along with directing, Linklater co-wrote the script with Holly Gent and Vince Palmo based on the novel written by Maria Semple. Below you’ll find a plot synopsis, in case the title and trailer were not clear enough.

WHERE’D YOU GO, BERNADETTE is based on the runaway bestseller about Bernadette Fox, a Seattle woman who had it all – a loving husband and a brilliant daughter. When she unexpectedly disappears, her family sets off on an exciting adventure to solve the mystery of where she might have gone.
