Blumhouse’s Vince Vaughn body-swap flick called Freaky Friday the 13th

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

It was just an hour or so ago that we passed along word that HAPPY DEATH DAY and HAPPY DEATH DAY 2U director Christopher Landon's new Blumhouse body-swapping fright flick with Vince Vaughn (BRAWL IN CELL BLOCK 99) and up-and-comer Kathryn Newton (PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 4, DETECTIVE PIKACHU) is going to be gory AF, blood-drenched, and gleefully hard R.

In that post, I joked that the flick will probably be called FREAKY FRIDAY THE 13TH (if they can get the rights sorted out). But then I started thinking that was more than likely more truth than joke so I did some digging. And low-and-behold, I found out that – yes – the movie is going by that title.

At least, you know, for now. I can't imagine the rights behind the scenes for such a title are easy to come by. On either the FREAKY FRIDAY or FRIDAY THE 13TH end. But maybe it will be no issue at all. Maybe it falls under, you know, parody laws, or whatever.  I guess we'll find out soon!

Landon wrote the screenplay with Michael Kennedy which follows this synopsis:

After swapping bodies with a deranged serial killer (Vince Vaughn), a young girl in high school (Kathryn Newton) discovers she has less than 24 hours before the change becomes permanent.

Jason Blum is producing with Adam Hendricks. Greg Gilreath and Zac Locke will serve as executive producers. Other cast includes Uriah Shelton (R.L. STINE'S THE HAUNTING HOUR) as the female lead's love interest named Booker with Alan Ruck (FERRIS BUELLER), Katie Finneran (WHY WOMEN KILL), Celeste O’Connor (SELAH AND THE SPADES) and Misha Osherovich (NOS4A2). What do you think?
