If you've been following the sad saga of Michael Myers over the past couple years, it shouldn't come as a surprise to you to find out that Blumhouse's new HALLOWEEN movie isn't as far along as we thought. While it was rumored that either Mike Flanagan or Adam Wingard might be helming the project, neither of those options has panned out so the company is back to square one.
Said Jason Blum to Cinemablend:
We haven't landed on an approach. We haven't landed on a filmmaker, and we haven't landed on an approach. We thought we had a filmmaker and an approach, and we don't. We're talking to a handful of people about it — all of them have different ideas. I don't believe in coming up with an idea and telling a filmmaker what to do. So we have three to five different people we're talking with, and all of them have a different idea about what it should be. And we haven't landed on a group, and as a result we haven't landed on an idea.

John Carpenter is still executive producing the project, and he might be doing the score as well. But for now we'll have to wait until they get an actual team together. Gone are the days when studios churned out slasher franchise movies nearly once a year, not really worrying about fan reaction until later. Of course, the HALLOWEEN movies have always had longer hiatuses than say, FRIDAY THE 13TH, but still. Hurry up!
