There's a show called Lincoln in the works at NBC, and unlike the Steven Spielberg movie of the same title this one is not about the 16th president of the United States. This Lincoln is forensic criminologist Lincoln Rhyme, the character at the center of a series of books written by Jeffery Deaver. Lincoln Rhyme was previously brought to life on the screen by Denzel Washington in the 1999 film THE BONE COLLECTOR.
For the Lincoln pilot, the role is now set to be filled by Russell Hornsby.
Lincoln Rhyme was
seriously injured during his hunt for the diabolic serial killer known as the Bone Collector. Called back into action when the killer re-emerges, Lincoln forms a unique partnership with Amelia Sachs, a young beat cop who helps him hunt the deadly mastermind while also taking on the most high-profile cases in the NYPD.
An interesting thing about Hornsby being cast in the lead of this pilot is the fact that he is already starring in a show called Proven Innocent, which just started airing on Fox last month. Proven Innocent has not gotten good ratings, though, so Hornsby is obviously planning ahead in case it gets cancelled. If it doesn't get cancelled, Lincoln will have to find another Lincoln.
For now it needs to find its Amelia Sachs. Sachs was played by Angelina Jolie in THE BONE COLLECTOR.
Hornsby has racked up fifty acting credits over the last twenty-six years and is probably best known for playing Hank Griffin on the show Grimm. He recently appeared in CREED II, and was also on a show called Lincoln Heights. Not a prequel to Lincoln. He and Denzel Washington were in the 2016 film FENCES together.
VJ Boyd and Mark Bianculli are writing and executive producing the Lincoln pilot. Avi Nir, Alon Shtruzman, Peter Traugott, and Rachel Kaplan are also executive producing.
