Bong Joon-ho confirms cuts for the U.S. release of Snowpiercer; sources say he’s “furious”

Back in August we learned The Weinstein Company might be cutting almost twenty minutes from SNOWPIERCER for its U.S. release, but there hasn't been any news since. Some were hopeful that the company and director Bong Joon-ho could work something out with the film, however it does look like there will be cuts and Joon-ho is not pleased about it.

SNOWPIERCER was shown at the Busan festival Monday night, and Variety has quoted Bong Joon-ho confirming that The Weinstein Company will release their cut of his film for its United States release.

“We are still in discussions about the cut, but it is clear that this is the only director’s cut you will be able to see."

Bong Joon-ho wouldn't get into details on what is getting cut from his film, just that it will be "a little different". Variety has also talked to some people close to the director, and they say privately he's "furious" about the cuts. Unfortunately, if he goes public with his complaints it could further complicate the release of SNOWPIERCER.

But since the film has already been released in South Korea and other parts of the world, we might be able to import Bong Joon-ho's version of SNOWPIERCER before it even hits theaters over here. So who is going to be lining up at theaters to see TWC's cut of SNOWPIERCER? The people like us who follow movies would have already nabbed the import or downloaded it, so who will this movie be for? Hardcore Chris Evans and Tilda Swinton fans? My point is if TWC is looking to make a profit with a theatrical release, why make cuts to the film when you know the people that will make an effort to see it in theaters aren't going to bother if it's not Bong Joon-ho's cut?

SNOWPIERCER currently doesn't have a U.S. release date, but it probably would have one if TWC didn't want to make these damn cuts. Sorry, I'm a little pissy about this.
