BossLogic debuts his idea of what Jake Gyllenhaal’s Mysterio could look like

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Yesterday, the internet became all a flutter once reports that Jake Gyllenhaal could star as Mysterio for the upcoming SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING sequel began to surface. While many fans of the friendly neighborhood wall-crawler were busy crafting hot takes on the announcement, the artist known as BossLogic was hard at work envisioning what Gyllenhaal could look like as the classic Marvel villain.

You can take a look at BossLogic's redetion of Gyllenhaal's Mysterio below:

As you can see, BossLogic created two versions of the character. The first looks as if Gyllenhaal placed his head in a magical fishbowl. The other, has the STRONGER actor's head dissolving into what looks like a field of magical energy trapped inside a crystal ball. The second image is quite interesting indeed, with Gyllenhaal looking like he could be a distant cousin of the Red Skull. Personally, I think both pieces of art are quite cool, and it would behoove Sony and Marvel to give them a good look before putting pen to paper for Mysterio's official design.

Just as a bit of background: Quentin Beck aka Mysterio was introduced in the pages of The Amazing Spier-Man #13 circa 1964. Before taking on the supervillain moniker Mysterio, Beck was a special effects engineer and stunt man working for a major Hollywood studio with dreams of one day becoming a high-profile celebrity. Unfortunately for Beck, he found himself lacking the ability to hold an audience while in front of the camera, which led to him giving up on his desire to become actor. Feeling bitter about the experience, Beck assumed the name Mysterio, and began using his technological know-how for creating illusions to commit crime. After gaining the attention of superheros like Spider-Man and Daredevil, Mysterio soon found himself among other high-profile rogues who were hellbent on making other people's lives miserable.

How are you feeling about the prospect of Jake Gyllenhaal starring as Mysterio? Are you excited to see what manner of wild effects are used to create the character on screen? Would it have been better to cast him as Kraven the Hunter, instead? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.

The sequel to SPIDER-MAN:HOMECOMING starring Tom Holland will swing into theaters on July 5, 2019.
