Box in November

I’ve made it no secret that I’m a huge fan of Richard Kelly. I even liked SOUTHLAND TALES, and I seem to be the only one. So needless to say I’m very much looking forward to his next film THE BOX. Well it looks like I’ll be looking forward to it for another year!

That’s right. Warner Brothers have once again pushed back the release date for THE BOX. Get this, from March 2009 to November 6, 2009. That’s some delay! There’s no telling why the release date has been pushed back nearly 8 months. Editing problems? Competition within the release dates? Who knows. So we’ll be waiting almost a full year until we get to see this one on the big screen.

The full synopsis for THE BOX reads: Norma and Arthur Lewis, a suburban couple with a young child, receive a simple wooden box as a gift, which bears fatal and irrevocable consequences. A mysterious stranger, delivers the message that the box promises to bestow upon its owner $1 million with the press of a button. But, pressing this button will simultaneously cause the death of another human being somewhere in the world; someone they don’t know. With just 24 hours to have the box in their possession, Norma and Arthur find themselves in the cross-hairs of a startling moral dilemma and must face the true nature of their humanity

Richard Kelly adapted the script from the Richard Matheson short story BUTTON, BUTTON. Kelly will also be directing. The film stars Cameron Diaz (below), James Marsden, Frank Langella, and Gillian Jacobs. I wouldn’t doubt seeing at least one other release date for THE BOX before we finally get to see it. Keep it here for any more updates.
