Box moves again

I’ve made it no secret that I’m a big fan of Richard Kelly’s. Most genre fans out there would agree that DONNIE DARKO is at least worth a watch, if not pretty damn good! Alas most genre fans would also agree that SOUTHLAND TALES was a big whopping of W-T-F, in a bad way. I have to disagree with that second bit. I found SOUTHLAND to be a pretty awesome mindf*ck… but I know I’m in the minority.

But I’m not here tonight to talk about DONNIE DARKO or SOUTHLAND TALES. Instead we’re talking about Richard Kelly’s next adventure: THE BOX. This movie has been done for a long ass time now. This bad boy could’ve been released last year if wanted. But alas, it wasn’t meant to be. Bounced around from release date to release date it seemed THE BOX finally found a home with it’s November 6th spot… but wouldn’t you know it, that’s changing too! Not by much though.

Warner Brothers recently announced that THE BOX’s new date is November 25, 2009. So just pushed back a couple weeks this time as opposed to months. Will this be THE BOX’s final resting place? I highly doubt it. Kelly directed the film as well as adapted the screenplay based on Richard Matheson’s short story BUTTON, BUTTON. It stars James Marsden, Cameron Diaz (below), and Frank Langella. Here’s the full synopsis from Warner Bros:

Norma and Arthur Lewis, a suburban couple with a young child, receive a simple wooden box as a gift, which bears fatal and irrevocable consequences. A mysterious stranger, delivers the message that the box promises to bestow upon its owner $1 million with the press of a button. But, pressing this button will simultaneously cause the death of another human being somewhere in the world; someone they don’t know. With just 24 hours to have the box in their possession, Norma and Arthur find themselves in the cross-hairs of a startling moral dilemma and must face the true nature of their humanity.

Alright then. When THE BOX finally hits theaters will people even care anymore? We’ll probably see SOUTHLAND TALES 2 before this one… kidding folks. Keep it here for any more updates on THE BOX… like a new release date perhaps?
