Boy Kills World: Famke Janssen, Sharlto Copley & more join Sam Raimi production

Anything with Sam Raimi‘s name on it has our attention here at JoBlo and Arrow in the Head, and the latest project he’s producing sounds very promising. It’s a dystopian action thriller called Boy Kills World, and Famke Janssen (The Faculty), Brett Gelman (Stranger Things), Sharlto Copley (District 9), Quinn Copeland (Punky Brewster), and twin brothers Cameron and Nicholas Crovetti (Big Little Lies) have all just signed on to join the previously announced Bill Skarsgard (It), Yayan Ruhian (The Raid: Redemption), Jessica Rothe (Happy Death Day), Andrew Koji (Warrior), and Isaiah Mustafa (It: Chapter Two) in the cast.

Boy Kills World marks the feature directorial debut of Moritz Mohr, who’s working from a screenplay written by Arend Remmers (Sløborn) and Tyler Burton Smith (Kung Fury: The Movie). The story takes place in a bizarre, dark dystopian universe and centers on

a deaf and mute character, Boy (Skarsgård), who navigates this depressing world with his otherworldly imagination. Tragedy strikes when Boy’s family is brutally murdered. When his fight or flight instincts kick in, Boy finds himself on a life-threatening trek into the darkly forested jungle. There, he meets a shaman (Ruhian) who takes Boy under his wing and launches him into a cutthroat coming of age journey where he encourages his new pupil to leave his youth behind and pick up the baton as a highly trained assassin.

Collider notes that “Janssen, Gelman, and Copley will take on roles as the antagonistic Van Der Koy family, with Janssen as matriarch Hilda, and Gelman and Copley as Gideon and Glen, respectively. Copeland will portray Mina, with the Crovetti twins appearing as the younger version of Boy.” Rothe will be playing an assassin named June 27, a character that Samara Weaving (Ready or Not) was briefly attached to play. Weaving had to leave the project due to scheduling issues.

Sam Raimi and Roy Lee are producing Boy Kills World, a collaboration between Raimi Productions, Vertigo Entertainment, Nthibah Pictures, and Hammerstone Studios.

I was already sold on Boy Kills World due to the names involved, and now with names like Janssen, Gelman, and Copley joining in it has gotten even more appealing.
