Brad Pitt on a sequel to World War Z: “We’re certainly talking about it”

WORLD WAR Z surprised the hell out of a lot of people with how well it performed in theaters (domestic and internationally), but many wondered if it would be enough to warrant a sequel. Variety was at the TIFF and asked Brad Pitt (who is out promoting 12 YEARS A SLAVE) if a sequel was in the works for WORLD WAR Z:

"We’re certainly talking about it, yes."

Pitt goes on to say that there are a lot of ideas floating around due to the work they did with the first film, but the important thing is to make sure the script is right.

"We have so many ideas on the table from the time we spent developing this thing and figuring out how the zombie worlds work. We gotta get the script right first to determine if we go further."

Variety also says Paramount is definitely interested in a sequel with Pitt and his production company, Plan B. At one point WORLD WAR Z was going to be a trilogy, and Brad Pitt says some of the ideas for the sequels could come from those plans.

"We have so many ideas and so much information–we think we have a lot of stuff to mine from."

I'm not one of those people that hated WORLD WAR Z, but I certainly didn't think it was fantastic. Could there be a sequel? Well, yeah of course but with how much trouble they had with the first one, are they really willing to take that risk again? It may have worked (WORLD WAR Z did bring in over half a billion dollars worldwide) but lightening usually doesn't strike twice, especially when it comes to movies and their sequels.
