Brie Larson to star in Charlie Kaufman’s I’m Thinking of Ending Things

Room Brie Larson

First published in 2016, author Iain Reid's "deeply scary and intensely unnerving" debut novel I'M THINKING OF ENDING THINGS (you can buy a copy at THIS LINK) is getting a film adaptation written and directed by Charlie Kaufman, who won an Oscar for co-writing ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND and was nominated for his BEING JOHN MALKOVICH and ADAPTATION screenplays. His stop-motion animated film ANOMALISA was also nominated for the Best Animated Feature Film Academy Award.

Brie Larson, an Oscar winner herself for her performance in the film ROOM (pictured above), is finalizing a deal to star in the psychological thriller, which centers on

a woman’s uncertainty of her relationship with her boyfriend, Jake. After an uncomfortable and confusing trip to meet Jake’s parents at their isolated farmhouse, reality unravels and events spin out of control when Jake and “The Girlfriend” make an unscheduled stop at an abandoned high school.

Kaufman is producing the film for Netflix alongside Likely Story's Anthony Bregman and Stefanie Azpiazu. Reid is on board as co-producer.

I haven't read Reid's novel, honestly the announcement of this film project was the first time I had heard of it, but from what I gather from reviews it's very creepy and reads like it was intended for the screen. I hope the film will turn out to be as intriguing and unnerving as the book apparently is.

Regardless, there's no way I'm not going to watch a Kaufman/Larson collaboration.
