With the cast coming to shape for David Leitch's BULLET TRAIN, Michael Shannon is the latest name to jump on board. He joins previously announced castmembers Brad Pitt, Joey King, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Brian Tyree Henry, Zazie Beetz, and Andrew Koji for Sony's action thriller, which will be written by Zak Olkewicz.

Based on the Japanese novel Maria Beetle by bestselling author Kotaro Isaka, Bullet Train revolves around five assassins aboard a fast-moving bullet train who find out their missions have something in common.

Shannon recently filmed his role as Coach Jack Murphy for Michael Mailer's SWING, a drama that takes place during the last year at an Ivy League college in 1999, when a group of friends and crew teammates' lives is changed forever after an army vet takes over as coach of their dysfunctional rowing team. Currently, Shannon is in the midst of filming SHRIVER, an upcoming comedy directed and written by Michael Maren. In the film, a handyman living in New York City is mistaken for a famous and famously reclusive writer and brought to a university where he is to deliver a keynote address. After wrapping on Shriver, Shannon will set his sites on the TV mini-series Nine Perfect Strangers, in which he stars as Napoleon for an adaptation of Liane Moriarty's novel.
