Interesting, albeit brief, news for you CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST fans out there. Our buddies over at Icons of Fright were at the Fangoria convention this past weekend in NJ (I was going to go, but had last-minute crap come up; yeah, boo-hoo for me) and they sat in on what sounded like the coolest panel at the event: MASTERS OF ITALIAN HORROR, featuring HOLOCAUST director Ruggero Deodato, as well as Lamberto Bava and Sergio Stivaletti. While discussing this and that (probably Italian horror), the subject of the CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST sequel – CANNIBALS – came up, and Deodato let it be known that the project has hit a snag.
Apparently, the producer of the film wants Deodato to change one thing in the script, but the director is standing his ground. No details were given, so we don’t have an idea of how major this change would be, but at the moment it seems as though the proposed September start date might be in peril (you know those stubborn Italians…).
Hell, maybe it’s the title: According to Icons, Deodato refers to the film as CANNIBAL METROPOLITAN. Not as catchy as CANNIBALS, but it certainly has that “Italian Cannibal Film” ring to it, doesn’t it? That’s just one schmuck’s theory though – hopefully we’ll learn more soon.
