I must be out of the loop. I must be sitting here reporting the news with blinders on while smoking crack in the backroom and shooting up heroin between my toes. Why? Because today I came across the promo art for John Carpenter’s upcoming film RIOT (previously SCARED STRAIGHT) starring Nicolas Cage. So wait, why am I on drugs? Oh yeah… up until now, I didn’t know Carpenter was making a new movie! This is the first I’m hearing of this!
Ok, now that the shock of riding the H train is subsiding for a second, I can continue. The boys at B-D scored some official ‘promo art’ for RIOT, which doesn’t really show anything of interest except it’s pmping out two little words I like to see before a film’s title: John Carpenter’s… it just has a nice ring to it.
I’m also into the bottom tagline, Uncaged 2009. Cause it stars Nic Cage. Get it? Uncaged? As clever as that is, I would have figured they would have used that before… CON AIR, anyone? But they haven’t! Bravo!
For those (like me) not in the know, RIOT goes like this:As part of the crime-prevention program Scared Straight, a governor’s delinquent son is sent to prison for what’s to be a short period of time. While behind bars, however, the kid is taken hostage during a riot, forcing a lifer (Cage) to come to his aid.
Well now I feel better. RIOT is not necessarily a horror flick… but it’s from Carpenter, baby! Returning to his ASSAULT ON PRECINCT 13 roots from the sound of it, and if it’s half as awesome as that movie was, then RIOT is gonna be rock!
