The good news – After the complete cluster f*ck that was ISHTAR, Warren Beatty and Dustin Hoffman have still chosen to avoid working together. The bad news – Jim Carrey and Joel Schumacher have apparently not learned that same lesson after the painfully misguided BATMAN FOREVER.
They’ve decided to work together again on a project called THE NUMBER 23 that follows a man who becomes obsessed and haunted upon reading a book that seems to be about his life but ends with a murder. The number 23 is woven throughout the plot.
I grant you it’s a very cool concept, but I’m not sure how the dark elements of such a tale will play when filtered through the master of mugging and a director who put nipples on Batman. For now I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt, but I reserve the right to be disappointed if this promising flick starts looking like another Rainbow Brite offering from Schumacher.
I would like to see Carrey have some box office success with a non-com since the guy does try to stretch, but has yet to find Robin Williams-ish success outside of his primary genre. Good luck Ace!
