Back in October of 2006 I flew to Vancouver, B.C., to check out the set of the Rene Zellweger horror flick CASE 39, from director Christian Alvart, and co-starring Ian McShane and Jodelle Ferland. What I saw on set, including the scenes I saw filmed and the ‘mini-trailer’ of what they had shot to that point, told me this flick was gonna be awesome… and yet, here we are, a year and a half later, and still no CASE 39.
I was only slightly worried that Paramount Pictures had decided on releasing it in August of this year, but I figured August is a prime summer release, so at least they’re backing it up. Well, it looks like I figured wrong. Either Paramount isn’t backing up this ‘gem,’ or it didn’t necessarily turn out the way they wanted it to.
Why? CASE 39 has been bumped back from it’s August 22, 2008, release date to April 10, 2009. That’s right, from this summer to over a year from now. And with the original release date in October of 2007, that’s what I call one helluva release delay.
After I hit up the set (and you’ll be able to read all about that the closer we get to it’s release… so probably this time next year) I really wanted to check this sucker out, but with the release date shuffle playing out the way it is… well, now I’m not too sure. Why hold onto it if it’s really good, right?
Stick around for more release date updates for CASE 39 as we hear it, and lightly mark your calendar in pencil for CASE 39 hitting theaters everywhere April 10, 2009.
