Not sure if I’m going to catch hell for this, but I was excited enough about Neil Marshall’s DOOMSDAY, that I went to see it in theaters.
That being said, I can’t help but be a little intrigued by Marshall’s next film, CENTURION. We haven’t heard too much about this film but two new images from it have surfaced online.
In case you haven’t heard about it, CENTURION is about Rome’s supposedly lost Ninth Legion. The film takes place in Britain, A.D. 117 with Quintus Dias the sole survivor of a Pict raid on the Roman frontier fort. He decides to march north with the Ninth Legion under orders to wipe the Picts and their leader Gorlacon from the face of the Earth. Marshall had this to say about the film, “The Picts are like the Indians and our Romans are like the cavalry. So, a Scottish-Roman Western! Who’d have thought?!”
Michael Fassbender who was most recently in INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS spoke on the film as well, “There’s certainly a lot of head-chopping. I guess you can always make modern-day parallels, to the occupation of Iraq. But it’s the idea of someone who believes in an ethos, becomes disillusioned and comes to his own sort of beliefs. So there are parallels, and it’s interesting when you take it out of our timeframe and stick it back 2,000 years.”
