Chance The Rapper joining Sesame Street movie

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Chance The Rapper is set to be one of the people that tells us how to get to Sesame Street. It has been announced that the rapper will be joining the SESAME STREET movie. Chance actually has a history with Sesame Street, having appeared in an episode back in January 2019. He's one of the stars appearing alongside Anne Hathaway in the film.

Anne Hathaway is leading the musical, which will be directed by Jonathan Krisel, the Emmy-nominated co-creator of Portlandia. Chance The Rapper, aka Chance Bennett, will play the Mayor’s aide in the family-friendly film, which is expected to boast a strong ensemble of diverse stars, similar to 2011's THE MUPPETS.

The story finds the Sesame characters mysteriously expelled from their own neighborhood, forcing them to collaborate with history show host Sally Hawthorne (Hathaway) to prove that Sesame Street actually exists. The film is produced by Shawn Levy with Michael Aguilar and Warner Bros. is co-financing the film with MGM. Mike Rosolio and Chris Galletta wrote drafts of the script, and EIGHTH GRADE director Bo Burnham will contribute original songs to the film, which Warners developed with the beloved children show’s rights holder, Sesame Workshop.

While Chance The Rapper is primarily known for music, he has steadily been making a name for himself in film and TV. He starred in A24’s horror-comedy SLICE, and he also played himself in the Netflix comedy Between Two Ferns: The Movie. Additionally, Chance has hosted Saturday Night Live, and his songs have appeared on HBO’s Ballers, Showtime’s The Chi and the Netflix movie AMERICAN SON.

I gre up on Sesame Street, like many others have, so I'm a little interested to see what they do with this. If it's similar to THE MUPPETS, which I did enjoy, this could be good. Are YOU interested in the SESAME STREET movie? SESAME STREET is slated to hit screens on January 14, 2022.
