Now, this is a surprise!
I really didn’t expect much from Showtime’s Penny Dreadful series, but then again I didn’t know much about it either. However, after seeing this new trailer for the series, I may need to call my cable company and get Showtime again, ’cause this is looking pretty damn badass. Starring Josh Hartnett, Eva Green, and Timothy Dalton, the series is basically THE LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN redux, with famous literary characters battling evil, albeit with the help of creator/writer John Logan (GLADIATOR, THE LAST SAMURAI) and executive producer Sam Mendes (SKYFALL). The trailer looks amazing, with some really great visuals that paint a portrait of a dark, twisted, bloody, and sexy show with some genuine scares.

This looks really great and the cast is dead on. Eva Green has made a career of playing these types of mysterious, strong women, Timothy Dalton is just plain awesome, and Josh Hartnett…where the hell has he been? Welcome back, Josh. Other castmembers include Rory Kinnear, Helen McCrory, and Billie Piper. Pleasantly surprised with this. That last shot may cause nightmares, too.
Penny Dreadful premieres on Sunday, May 11th at 10PM ET/PT.
