Chris Hemsworth boards AGBO’s India kidnapping drama Dhaka for Netflix

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

As Joe and Anthony Russo continue to plot their exit from Marvel's Cinematic Universe, it's been announced that the duo's production banner, AGBO, has cast AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR and THOR star Chris Hemsworth in DHAKA, an upcoming thriller planned for a Netflix debut. No plot details related to the pic have been officially announced, though it is known that the film will involve Hemsworth's character extracting a kidnapped Indian boy. Shooting for the film is set to take place in both India and Thailand, with Joe Russo having penned the script. On board to direct the feature is Sam Hargrave, whose stunt work for multiple MCU movies and small acting roles in films such as ATOMIC BLONDE, DEADPOOL 2, and BLOOD RUNS BLACK have helped place him in the duo's cross hairs.

Recently, the Brothers Russo won an on-going auction for the rights to CHERRY, a novel penned by first-time author Nico Walker, as part of their deal with Netflix. Hailed as a cross between Jesus' Son and Reservoir Dogs, CHERRY takes place in Cleveland and revolves around a young man from an affluent family who marries his hometown girlfriend before joining the Army and shipping out to Iraq. An Army medic, he is unprepared for the grisly reality that awaits him, and the rough and tumble nature of his fellow soldiers who smoke, huff computer duster, take painkillers, watch porn, and get gruesomely injured all too regularly. By the time the soldier returns home, he has an un-diagnosed case of extreme PTSD and has become hooked on the opioids prescribed him. He finds an outlet that forces him to focus and makes him feel the way he did in pressure combat situations: he robs banks.

While the brothers follow-up to this year's AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR will begin breaking the box office on May 3, 2019, you can catch Chris Hemsworth up on the big screen when BAD TIMES AT THE EL ROYALE moseys into theaters on October 12th
