Chris Pratt says JW3 will deliver on the promise of Fallen Kingdom’s ending

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Although JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM didn't receive quite the same critical response as JURASSIC WORLD, it still managed to net quite the box-office haul, totaling $1.3 billion worldwide, which meant that a third installment was more or less guaranteed. JURASSIC WORLD 3 will serve as the conclusion to the JURASSIC WORLD trilogy and find Colin Trevorrow back in the director's chair. We've already heard several teases about the third film in the past few months, including that it will be closer in tone to Steven Spielberg's JURASSIC PARK than either JURASSIC WORLD or JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM was. "If I could contextualize each film, I would say Jurassic World was an action adventure, Fallen Kingdom is kind of a horror suspense film, and Jurassic World 3 will be a science thriller in the same way that Jurassic Park was," Trevorrow said.

While speaking with MTV News during a fun interview which took place at his former place of employment, Bubba Gump Shrimp Company, Chris Pratt dropped a few JURASSIC WORLD 3 tidbits and said that it will deliver on the promise of the ending of JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM, which saw dinosaurs roaming free in the world.

I can’t say anything, but I can tell you when I heard the pitch, I was blown away. I can’t believe that we’re going to make that movie, and I can’t believe they found a way to deliver on the promise of the end of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. Like, ‘Wait what? The island has blown up. The animals are out, we can’t put them back in the box. What are we going to do? How are not only these dinosaurs, but this technology moving forward going to affect the planet?’ We jump forward, and it’s like, ‘Oh! Oh, right! Oh, damn!’ [Trevorrow] has been working his butt off on it and it’s going to be pretty epic.

There have also been rumblings that some of the original film's cast could return for JURASSIC WORLD 3, including Jeff Goldblum (whose FALLEN KINGDOM appearances were far too short) and Laura Dern. In fact, Pratt teased that he recently saw Dern and "we discussed a little bit, some of the stuff… you will not be disappointed." As far as dinosours running amok and trashing through cities in the sequel, Colin Trevorrow has said that that won't be the focus of the film. "I just have no idea what would motivate dinosaurs to terrorize a city. They can’t organize. Right now we’ve got lethal predators in wild areas surrounding cities all over the world. They don’t go pack hunting for humans in urban areas," Trevorrow said. "The world I get excited about is the one where it’s possible that a dinosaur might run out in front of your car on a foggy backroad, or invade your campground looking for food. A world where dinosaur interaction is unlikely but possible—the same way we watch out for bears or sharks. We hunt animals, we traffic them, we herd them, we breed them, we invade their territory and pay the price, but we don’t go to war with them. If that was the case, we’d have lost that war a long time ago." JURASSIC WORLD 3 is slated for a June 11, 2021 release.
