Child’s Play star Chris Sarandon would be willing to return for a rematch with Chucky

Thirty-five years after facing off with Chucky in the original Child’s Play, Chris Sarandon says he’d be willing to return for a rematch

Chucky the killer doll has come back a whole lot of times since we first saw him in the 1988 classic Child’s Play. He has starred in several big screen sequels, a couple direct-to-video sequels, and now he’s three seasons deep into a TV series that runs on both Syfy and USA Network (as well as the Peacock streaming service). As he has made his way through the decades, many of his co-stars have also returned to share the screen with him again and again. But among those who haven’t returned is Chris Sarandon, who played Detective Mike Norris in the original film. During an interview conducted by People to mark the thirty-fifth anniversary of the original Child’s Play, Sarandon revealed that he would be willing to come back for another Chucky project… even though he turned down the chance to appear in Child’s Play 2.

Speaking with People, Sarandon said he didn’t come back for Child’s Play 2 because it wasn’t being directed by Child’s Play‘s Tom Holland. “Tom wasn’t involved in the second one, so I just said, ‘Thank you, but no thank you.’” But if he was asked to return now? “Yeah, sure. It always depends on the circumstance. [But] I would think that, at this point, Mike Norris is retired.

Sarandon is now 81 years old, so his character probably would be retired. But that doesn’t mean he couldn’t cross paths with Chucky again.

As for what has been going on with Chucky, here’s the synopsis for Chucky season 3: In Chucky’s unending thirst for power, season 3 now sees Chucky ensconced with the most powerful family in the world — America’s First Family, inside the infamous walls of the White House. How did Chucky wind up here? What in God’s name does he want? And how can Jake, Devon, and Lexy possibly get to Chucky inside the world’s most secure house, all while balancing the pressures of romantic relationships and growing up? Meanwhile, Tiffany faces a looming crisis of her own as the police close in on her for “Jennifer Tilly’s” murderous rampage last season.

The series stars Jennifer Tilly (as serial killer Tiffany Valentine, now inhabiting the body of actress Jennifer Tilly), Zackary Arthur (as Jake Wheeler), Alyvia Alyn Lind (as Lexy Cross), Fiona Dourif (as Nica Pierce), Björgvin Arnarson (as Devon Evans), Alex Vincent (as Andy Barclay), Christine Elise (as Kyle), Barbara Alyn Woods (as Mayor Michelle Cross), Lachlan Watson (as Glen/Glenda), Carina Battrick (as Caroline Cross), and Brad Dourif (providing the voice of Chucky).
