I hardly ever find myself interested enough in TV to cover genre news from the boob tube, yet here I find myself doing just that for the second time this week. Perhaps all the remake-itis is forcing the creative juices of the genre community into our homes (anybody catch INVASION this week – f*cking creepy)!
So now Variety tells us that Chucky guru Don Mancini is partnering with DESPERATE HOUSWIVES creator Marc Cherry to develop KILL/SWITCH for ABC.
Let me first say, great title! And the dark humor these two bring to their projects should make for excellent TV while staying cruel and wicked enough to please genre fans. So what’s the concept? Here’s what Mancini had to share:
“It’s a twist on the murder mystery format that also has some humor in it,” said Mancini, who added that he came up with the idea for the show about five months ago.
“There is a supernatural element,” Mancini said, without elaborating on plot details. Scribe added there would be some “tonal similarities” to Cherry’s work on “Housewives” and that while episodes will be self-contained, “There is a kind of overarching thematic thread that will draw you through the season.”
Some sources have also rumored that the show will feature a main character who is dead, which could explain the supernatural element, or could just be a wild guess since DH features a dead narrator.
I have to say I hope this puppy gets picked up because I am very intrigued. And while this is mostly unrelated, I feel it is my duty to report that Cherry is also considering a DH spin off called VISCIOUS CHEERLEADERS.
