Chucky TV series casts David Kohlsmith as young Charles Lee Ray

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

A few years ago, child actor David Kohlsmith played the 5-year-old version of the creepy kid in Nicholas McCarthy's film The Prodigy (watch it HERE). Now Kohlsmith, who just recently turned 9, is set to play the younger version of a genre icon, as IMDb leaked the news and our friends at Bloody-Disgusting have confirmed that he'll be appearing in the upcoming Chucky TV series as a young Charles Lee Ray.

Kohlsmith's other credits include "Young Billy" in Shazam! and "5-Year-Old Teddy" in The Christmas Chronicles.

Don Mancini, who has written every Child's Play film (except for the remake) and directed a few of them, developed Chucky with producer David Kirschner. They are executive producing the show with Harley Peyton, Alex Hedlund, and Nick Antosca. Mancini also directed the first episode. The show's synopsis:

After a vintage Chucky doll turns up at a suburban yard sale, an idyllic American town is thrown into chaos as a series of horrifying murders begin to expose the town’s hypocrisies and secrets. Meanwhile, the arrival of enemies and allies from Chucky’s past threatens to expose the truth behind the killings, as well as the demon doll’s untold origins as a seemingly ordinary child who somehow became this notorious monster.

The "untold origins" of Charles Lee Ray being "a seemingly ordinary child who somehow became this notorious monster" is where Kohlsmith comes into the picture. I'm not so sure about seeing glimpses into Chucky's childhood, I didn't even like the flashbacks to his past that we saw in Curse of Chucky very much, but I'm looking forward to the show and will give this part of it a chance.

The cast of the series also includes Zackary Arthur, Devon Sawa, Fiona Dourif, Jennifer Tilly, Bjorgvin Arnarson, Jacob Breedon, Alex Vincent, Lexa Doig, Teo Briones, Christine Elise, Alyvia Alyn Lind, and Lind's real-life mother Barbara Alyn Woods. Brad Dourif is once again providing the voice of Chucky.

A follow-up to all of the Child's Play movies (except that remake), Chucky picks up where Cult of Chucky left off. The first season of Chucky will consist of 8 episodes, which will begin airing on USA Network and Syfy on October 12th.
