Chucky TV series renewed for season 2! 90 minute season 1 finale airs tomorrow

UPDATE: One day before the season 1 finale airs, The Hollywood Reporter just broke the news that NBCUniversal has officially ordered a second season of the Chucky TV series!

Series creator / executive producer Don Mancini shared the following statement:

We’re thrilled to start pulling the strings on a second season of puppet mayhem with Chucky. Many thanks to our partners at USA, Syfy and UCP for their incredible support and guidance bringing Chucky to the small screen, bigger than ever. And to the fans, Chucky sends his still-undying thanks, and a message: ‘This isn’t over, not by a long shot. You better watch your backs in 2022!’”

The Chucky TV series will be wrapping up the eight episode run of its first season tomorrow, November 30th, and cast member Jennifer Tilly has revealed that the season finale is going to be a bit longer than the preceding episodes. While the first seven episodes of the season aired during a one hour slot, the last episode of Chucky (season 1) is going to be 90 minutes!

Tilly also shared a behind-the-scenes image of her hanging out on the set with a whole bunch of Chucky dolls:

A follow-up to all of the Child’s Play movies (remake excluded), Chucky picks up where Cult of Chucky left off. Don Mancini, who has written every Child’s Play film (except that remake) and directed a few of them, developed Chucky with producer David Kirschner. Mancini and Kirschner are executive producing Chucky with Harley Peyton, Alex Hedlund, and Nick Antosca. Mancini also directed the first episode. The show’s synopsis:

After a vintage Chucky doll turns up at a suburban yard sale, an idyllic American town is thrown into chaos as a series of horrifying murders begin to expose the town’s hypocrisies and secrets. Meanwhile, the arrival of enemies and allies from Chucky’s past threatens to expose the truth behind the killings, as well as the demon doll’s untold origins as a seemingly ordinary child who somehow became this notorious monster.

Tilly is joined in the cast of Chucky by Zackary Arthur, Fiona Dourif, Devon Sawa, Alex Vincent, Christine Elise, Bjorgvin Arnarson, Jacob Breedon, Lexa Doig, Teo Briones, Alyvia Alyn Lind, Lind’s real-life mother Barbara Alyn Woods, and David Kohlsmith. And yes, Brad Dourif has again provided the voice of Chucky.

Chucky airs both Syfy and USA Network, Tuesday nights at 10pm Eastern. The show will also be streaming on Peacock as of December 1st.

I haven’t been watching the show, choosing to wait until all of the episodes are available so I can marathon / binge-watch them. The time for that marathon is almost here.
