Ryan Reynolds’ Clue remake snags director

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

That CLUE remake starring Ryan Reynolds (DEADPOOL, BLADE: TRINITY) looks to have snagged its director in the form of filmmaker James Bobin (FLIGHT OF THE CONCHORDS). Jason Bateman (THE OUTSIDER) was previously attached but left due to scheduling conflicts with OZARK.

The cast has not been set, but 20th Century is aiming for high-profile talent to join Reynolds in the film penned by ZOMBIELAND and DEADPOOL scribes Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. Reynolds’ Maximum Effort is developing and producing with the film division of Hasbro, Allspark Pictures.

Paul Wernick teased last year :

Don't be surprised if Clue is an R rated… Potentially.

Rhett Reese added:

It will have elements of [the original movie], but it’s important that we don’t try and just rehash it. We want to build on it. We want to take some of what makes it fun and funny, but then we want to do our own thing. It’s about finding that balance. Hopefully, we don’t upset the Clue-hounds because there are a lot of them apparently. We didn’t realize this until we signed up.

Mustard (Martin Mull). When Boddy turns up murdered, all are suspects, and together they try to figure out who is the killer.

CLUE starred Lesley Ann Warren as Ms. Scarlet, Martin Mull as Col. Mustard, Madeline Kahn as Mrs. White, Christopher Lloyd as Prof. Plum, Eileen Brennan as Mrs. Peacock, and Michael McKean as Mr. Green. They were joined by Colleen Camp as Yvette, Lee Ving as Mr. Boddy, and Tim Curry as Wadsworth. It was produced by Debra Hill (HALLOWEEN, THE FOG) and written & directed by Jonathan Lynn from a story by Lynn and John Landis (AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON) based on the board game by Anthony E. Pratt. Paramount released it back on December 13, 1985.
