Order a strong coffee and pairs of quality running shoes for Rainn Wilson (Weird: The Al Yankovic Story) and Lil Rel Howery (Get Out) because the duo is getting behind the wheel of an unpredictable ambulance. The team inked a deal to executive produce and star in Code 3, an action-comedy about paramedics at the end of their rope. The project hails from Wayfarer Studios and Circle of Confusion, with production putting rubber to the road in Los Angeles in February.

Christopher Leone (ParallelsThe Lost Room) directs from a script by former paramedic Patrick Pianezza. According to DeadlineCode 3 focuses on a day in the life of two overworked, underpaid, and exhausted paramedics. One EMT, wasted from the job, forces himself to resign, though he must complete one more 24-hour shift before calling it quits. As you can imagine, everything that can go wrong does, leading the tired EMT and his replacement to a hellish shift of epic proportions.

Angela Cardon joins the Code 3 team as the project’s overseer and sole financier. “Code 3 is a fresh buddy action comedy from Patrick and Christopher that will take the audience on an introspective journey. It demonstrates how our interactions with strangers can have a profound impact,” said Wayfarer Studios President Jamey Heath. “We are beyond excited for this film and the fact that Rainn and Lil Rel are on board is fantastic. The two will inject humor and levity into this provocative story and Wayfarer Studios is thrilled to partner with Circle of Confusion and Silver Heart Productions to share this story.”

Anyone who’s ever ridden in the back of an ambulance knows how difficult the job can be. In addition to navigating traffic, tending to patients, and keeping cool under enormous pressure, being an EMT is unpredictable. Your situation can go from bad to worse, and you must be ready to deal with it. When you’re an EMT, finding a balance between caffeine intake, sleep routine, and sanity upkeep can be a burden. The next time you encounter an EMT, thank them for their efforts. It’s one of the most thankless jobs in the medical profession, and showing respect goes a long way.
