Could it be that JUNO screenwriter Diablo Cody is a big fan of the genre? Or maybe she’s got one twisted mind and she just happens to love possessed cheerleaders and zombies trying to live real lives? First she penned the upcoming horror JENNIFER’S BODY and now she seems interested in producing an adaptation of BREATHERS: A ZOMBIE’S LAMENT.

At least that’s the word coming from Production Weekly. Apparently Cody (below) has gone and gotten Geoff LaTulippe to agree to pen a script of S.G. Browne’s upcoming novel. Here’s the synopsis of the book: Andy Warner reanimates after the car accident that kills his wife, but is too mangled from his injuries to talk. He lives in his parents’ wine cellar, occasionally attending a zombie support group and struggling to rejoin a society that offers the undead no rights, bans them from working and doesn’t even punish those who destroy them. When Andy and his fellow zombies—notably Rita, a sexy suicide victim with a lipstick fetish, and Jerry, a Playboy-obsessed stoner—learn why they’re so driven to consume human flesh, the repercussions are both tragic and hilarious. Browne neatly mixes humor and extreme violence with a surprisingly tender love story, some witty social satire and an extremely strong narrative voice.

That actually sounds pretty damn cool. A playboy obsessed stoner zombie? Well I’m sold. That’s all the info we get so we’ll be keeping an eye on this one and let you all know what the deal is once we hear more. For now be on the lookout for the novel if the synopsis struck your fancy. It hits shelves March 3 or you can PRE-ORDER IT NOW!
